What is endodontics? What is it for?

Endodontics is the dental treatment directly related to the dental pulp. It is about creating a passage to the root and the tissues around the root in the depth of the tooth to be able to disinfect, remove the nerve and reconstitute that same tooth.

What is dental pulp? The dental pulp is that soft tissue that is found under the enamel   that contains all the blood vessels, nerve and connective tissue

the main objective is to "kill the nerve" from the root to create access to the pulp.

When is it necessary to perform a root canal?

Endodontics is the treatment that is necessary to resort to in case of infection or inflammation of the dental pulp.  Caries/ when the part is damaged enough to affect the nerve. Root canal treatment requires 1 to 2 visits to treat the nerve and fill the tooth and can last a lifetime.

Possible causes of an infection in the dental pulp?

Some symptoms that may be at the origin of an infection in the dental pulp can be deep caries, trauma or fractures in the tooth. It is noticed by feeling a sensitivity or pain in the gums due to an inflammation in the dental pulp, but there are times when the pain is not felt and in case of doubt it is better to consult to save the tooth._cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_

Why is endodontics favored in case of a damaged tooth?

Contrary to extraction, endodontics has as its main objective to maintain the natural tooth and treat it by reconstituting it with a lead.

 And what about bigger infections?

In the case where the infection is so extensive that more comprehensive endodontic treatment is required, a crown is needed rather than just filling. In addition, it will be important to save the initial shape of the tooth, so that the difference is not noticeable from the outside.

The dentist will try to do everything in the first place to restore the tooth without having to remove it, in the event that the infection is too great it would be necessary to place an implant.

To give you an idea of endodontic treatment:

The 7 stages of endodontic treatment

Diagnosis - Radiology required para

Access - Dental chamber creating access to the dental tooth

Extirpation - Identification of the nerve to extract it

Debridement - Canal disinfection process

Drying - The channel is cleaned by drying it para

Filling - Remove cavities and bacteria

Tooth restoration - Seal with composite

In which cases is there no other option but to extract the tooth?

The placement of an implant can only be used in the following cases: an unbridgeable fracture, in which it is impossible to access the root canals or in which an unfavorable proportion between the crown and the root is noted._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_
